The second book in an ongoing series of narratives written from the imagined viewpoint of something that doesn't communicate in the same way that I do. In this piece I imagine myself as a pinecone.

Created from pages that were overwritten while on various excursions during summer 2024. The graphite drawings were created in situ while camping in Colorado forests, also during summer of 2024.

In this first variant, 19 graphite drawings of pinecones float on backgrounds of over-written text. The narrative is presented as a series of labels below the drawings. Sewn onto stubs in a modified simplified binding. Housed in a bespoke box with stained hardwood sides. Box front label is a graphite drawing on paper recessed behind mica. The spine label is also recessed.

A life spent moving always upward. I reach the sky. I curl inward around precious growing bits I fend off cold wind and damp. I wait . . . for parched, thirsty air. For clarity, for the right time to disperse my precius bits. Soon I'll open wide and drop to the forest floor to disperse, to nurture, perhaps to root and grow.
